Our skylight windows and aluminium atriums bring generous daylight exactly where no vertical opening can reach. Lofts, staircases, internal light wells and ground floor rooms change character completely with a properly engineered roof opening. Aluminium combined with insulating glazing guarantees energy performance, full water tightness and resistance to demanding weather.
Fixed and Opening Roof Windows
Fixed skylights act as light domes and maximise illumination without moving parts. Opening systems with manual or electric operation allow natural ventilation and extraction of warm air, which is particularly useful in homes with internal staircases. Rain sensors close the sash automatically so the interior is never at risk.
Engineering, Waterproofing and Heat Control
Because a horizontal opening receives far more solar radiation than a vertical one, glass selection is critical. We use low-emissivity energy glazing and, where required, reflective or satin solutions, while paying particular attention to slopes and drainage channels. See also our glass roof systems.
Frequently Asked Questions About Skylight Windows
Are roof windows completely watertight?
They are, provided there is a correct slope, suitable drainage channels and a carefully executed connection with the roof or the slab. Our systems seal on two levels, so even driving rain with strong wind causes no ingress.
Will the room overheat in summer?
With plain glass it certainly would, which is why we specify solar control glazing and, where needed, internal blinds or external louvres. The space then remains bright without turning into a greenhouse.
Can a skylight be installed on an existing terrace?
Yes. We survey the site, check the structural capacity of the slab and the thickness of the insulation, and then build the appropriate upstand. Works are usually completed within one or two days with full restoration of the waterproofing.
Are they safe if the glass breaks?
Laminated glass is mandatory on the inner face of every horizontal opening. Even if it breaks, the fragments are held by the interlayer and cannot fall into the room below, ensuring complete safety.
How are the panes cleaned in high atriums?
In most projects cleaning is performed from the outside with telescopic tools or directly from the roof. For hard to reach positions we recommend self-cleaning glass, which considerably reduces maintenance frequency.
