They are frequently specified for kitchen windows above worktops, for hospitality service hatches, for narrow light wells and for renovation projects where an inward opening sash would be impractical. Fully retracted, the sash disappears and leaves a completely free passage.

How does a hung window operate?
The sash slides vertically inside side guides and is supported by a counterbalance mechanism. Because the weight is balanced, the sash can be raised or lowered with one hand and remains stable in any intermediate position.
Is a hung system suitable for very large openings?
It is, when the mechanism and the guides are sized correctly. For considerable heights and heavy glazing we specify reinforced counterweights or motorised operation so handling remains effortless.
How well does it seal against wind and rain?
Sealing is achieved with high density brushes and gaskets along the guides and the meeting rails. In exposed positions we recommend a version with additional weather bars and controlled drainage.
Can insect screens be added?
Yes, usually with a roller screen mounted on the outer side that follows the movement of the sash. The solution is discreet and does not interfere with the counterbalance mechanism.
What maintenance does the mechanism need?
Keeping the guides clean and having the counterbalance checked periodically is enough. Because the components are stainless or coated, corrosion is not an issue even in humid environments.
